Top Apps for PE Teachers – Part 30

The Walk

Created by the same team behind  ‘Zombies, Run’ comes this superb augmented reality fitness adventure. The Walk Screenshot 2013-12-15 10.08.34places you at the scene of a bomb explosion in Inverness station, and you’re given a package that could save the world. To stay alive, you’ll need to walk the length of the UK. The Walk is more than just a great pedometer/step counter — it’s a way to turn walking into a journey, a challenge, and a rip-roaring adventure.  A perfect addition to any classroom or as motivation for an apathetic student cohort. I will be recommending this to my Year 12 students to encourage Active Transport options.

TreadmillVR

No more boring Treadmill running. With TreadmillVR you can experience the outdoor environment while running inside. The exciting thing about the app is the locations of the scenes you can run in. Everything from Florida, Puffy white clouds and the Swiss Alps.

Video Tagger Pro

The new Pro version of my Video Tagger App is a powerful video analysis and assessment tool that makes it possible to capture and tag sports performance. Start recording and tap the customisable buttons that float on screen to tag performance as it happens. The app will record a few seconds either side of the tap. On completion you will have created an instant highlight montage video that pinpoints just the thing you were interested within. Schools all over the world are using the app for tonnes of different reasons.

Spin It

Spin It is a random exercise & activity generator that brings the fun back to your activities. Use the app to create your own ‘spinners’ in minutes, allowing you to randomise the results for serendipitous fun. Add your own images to the spinner to uniquely identify them amongst their groups. One tap and your ready for a tonne of randomized fun. See the app in action here

Slow Fast Slow

A super cool app  that enables you to easily produce both slow and fast motion video mashups in seconds. We recently used this app to explore Triple Jump technique, with the run up completed in normal speed, takeoff and flight in slow motion and landing in normal speed. A great way to explore possible improvements.

  1. Hello Mr. Robinson,

I am very into the fitness techniques and I love to learn new things about ways to exercise. This app is a very useful app for people who want to exercise many different ways. It gives you multiple of choices to choose from when you want to exercise.

  2. The walk seems like a great app to get people out there and active! This app combines both video games and exercise, that’s awesome! Living in today’s technological inclined world means that we have to constantly think of new ways to get people out of the way from in front of the computer to getting outside and doing some productive exercise. I think this app does a great job in combining the two!
