The Video Analysis App Battle

In the last year we have seen a wave new apps hit the market that have taken the once difficult and epic time consuming task of video analysis and made it a reality . This has opened up enormous possibilities for improved student learning outcomes and I am incredibly grateful for the effort the developers have put into the apps.

So with this in mind, I thought it was time to see what you all considered to be the best video analysis app. Please select your favorite in the poll below and leave a comment to go into the draw to win an iTunes gift card.

  1. I voted for ubersense. It is incredibly easy to use. It’s free!!! & the ability to record your VoiceOver analysis of the demonstrated skill and then upload to Dropbox or YouTube is brilliant.

  2. For me, Ubersense is the pick of the video apps. It gets a big tick for being free, but besides that, the side by side feature is great. Being able to compare two separate performances of a skill and make comparisons is such a valuable learning tool for not only me as a coach/teacher but also for the student/athlete.

  3. Ubersense. (My ‘PE teacher’ perspective)
-FREE so students can all have app on their devices no worries
-voice over commentary for me to assess students
-dual video feature for beginning and end of unit skill comparison for students
-simple to use, so don’t need to spend time teaching tech to students
-Easy to keep mobile device memory free by uploading to class Evernote or edmodo

  4. Coaches eye has been very useful for my Dance unit. Very quick analysis tool and screencasting and then upload to drop box where my students pick up and put on their blogs. Very easy and quick. I will try the ubersense and like Blake’s idea of beginning/end skill comparison – thanks for sharing.

  5. Hi,
My name is Maria. I am a student in Dr. Strange’s EDM 310 class at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. I am studying to be an elementary teacher. I do not know a lot about these types of apps, but I like Ubersense and Coach My Video because they are free. I like any app that is free because then students, parents, and teachers (or in this case coaches) can all have the app. I also liked the look of Coaches Eye. I liked that there were different colors for different highlighted points. Only down point about that app it was one of the more expensive.
    My blog

  6. CoachMyVideo loads the quickest and let’s me email HD videos. For those reasons, it’s the only one I use with my GoPro cameras.
