Step Test - Available in the iTunes Store NOW

The easiest and quickest way to measure your health and aerobic fitness.

The 3 Minute Step Test or Queens College Step test is one of many variations of step test procedures, used to determine aerobic fitness. The test is an easy to administer sub-maximal test of cardiovascular endurance.

The step test app does all the work for you so you can concentrate on your test.
Procedure
- The athlete steps up and down on the platform at a rate of 22 steps per minute for females and at 24 steps per minute for males. Pace is set by the internal metronome inside the app
- The subjects are to step using a four-step cadence, ‘up-up-down-down’ for 3 minutes.
- The athlete stops immediately on completion of the test, where they are guided through the counting of their heart rate for 15 seconds.

The user then enters their HR and this information is then used to determine your level of aerobic fitness and a predicted V02max. The theory is that the lower your heart rate on completion of activity, the higher your aerobic fitness base

12MinuteRun – Available in the iTunes Store NOW

The 12 Minute Run or Coopers Test is the benchmark test of physical fitness. It was designed in 1968 for US military use. In the original form, the point of the test is to run as far as possible within 12 minutes. The outcome is based on the distance the person ran, their age and gender. The results can be correlated to determine a VO2 Max, which is used to determine the amount of oxygen an individual can transport and utilise during exercise, which reflects the fitness of an individual.

How it works
- Simply Enter Your Age and Sex
- Press the Start Test Button and await the Countdown
- Commence steady running for 12 minutes while the GPS tracks your covered distance
- Observe Results including your rating and predicted V02 Max

Recommendations include
-  Completing the test in an open area with clear access to the skyline. Buildings an built up areas may impact on GPS signal quality and could affect the accuracy of the test
- Completing a thorough warm up and stretches prior to participating in the test
- Run at a steady comfortable pace throughout the test to ensure optimal results
